What this is
Established on March 1, 2002 under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) operates under the Ministry of Power to reduce the energy intensity of the Indian economy through strategic policy and sustainable practices.
The Standards & Labelling (S&L) Certification Scheme is BEE's flagship initiative — designed to minimise electricity consumption in household and commercial appliances. The logic is simple: more stars equals higher efficiency and lower electricity bills.
Compliance is mandatory for manufacturers, importers and traders to certify regulated products before sale in the Indian market.
